Your podcast could use some improvement.
I know that might sound presumptuous, not knowing anything about you, your show, your audience, or your intended goals. But there’s always room for improvement, even among the very best of the best.
In fact, the drive for continual improvement is likely what got the best of the best where they are in the first place.
And now it’s your turn.
Luckily, the method for improving your show is simple. No, not easy, but simple and straightforward.
Find problems and then solve them
Really, this is all improving your show comes down to. Making a clear-headed assessment of your work and then closing the gap between where you’re currently at and where you’d like to be in each of the different areas.
Finding the problem areas is the essential first step, but it’s often the question we don’t ask of ourselves, preferring to avoid the problems and hope they’ll go away on their own, or that we’ll find a way to grow our shows in spite of them.
They won’t. And we won’t.
The good news is that identifying the problems is the hard part. Once you’ve identified the problems, finding the answers is easy. The answers are right in front of you, all of them available for free online in some form or another.
Need to improve your audio quality? There are countless blogs and YouTube channels explaining exactly how to do that.
Need to improve your skill as an interviewer? Make notes on your favourite interviewers and dissect what they’re doing.
Need to improve your marketing? There are hundreds of massive podcasts out there that are doing an excellent job marketing their shows. Pick one you like and break down everything they’re doing. Ask why it works and if it would work for you. Then experiment.
Once you know the problems, you can find the answers, often quicker than you might have thought.
Pick your biggest problem, or your smallest, and go find the answer to how to fix it.
Then repeat.
Fix one problem a week and a year from now you’ll have improved your show in 52 different ways.
Improvement doesn’t need to be difficult.
Find a problem and solve it.
Every Sunday I send out an exclusive article on how to use podcasting to build an audience and grow your business.
No opt-in, no freebie no bribe. But hopefully a new perspective, encouragement, and maybe even some occasional wisdom. It’s something I’m proud to create and I’d be honoured to share it with you.
