I’m sorry to be the one tell you this, but we already have the information.
All that stuff you’re trying to teach us, we’ve heard it a dozen times before.
You’re doing a great job in teaching it, and don’t think we don’t appreciate your unique spin on it. I’m sure every one of us in your audience has had at least a few breakthroughs and aha moments thanks to you showing up regularly in the way that you do.
But here’s the thing.
Whether or not we’re willing to admit it to ourselves, most of us already know what we need to do in order to solve the problem you teach about, and have a pretty good idea of how to go about doing it.
Your information, your take on the subject, is useful, it’s motivating, sometimes even downright inspiring, but it’s not going to get us to our destination on its own.
What we need to get there is support, accountability, and sometimes, when we just feel like venting, a little commiseration.
We need a community of likeminded people who are going to the same place we are, who understand the journey, and the victories, setbacks and dark moments when we truly feel we can’t go on that make it up.
In those moments we need someone to pick us up or cheer us on, or ask us the tough question about whether we truly want to reach the other side, and if so, why aren’t we showing up with our best selves to make it happen.
Now, I know this is a lot of work, you’re trying to help a lot of people after all. We don’t expect you to personally support each and every one of us through each and every step of the journey.
But whether or not you’ve noticed, you’ve attracted a pretty incredible group of people who are enrolled in this journey, and we’re willing to be that support for each other.
What we need from you, more than your knowledge, your information, your how-to’s, is for you to organize us.
We need you to step up and take the lead in building not a top-down lecture series, but of a community of people who are bought in and enrolled on this journey.
Don’t stop teaching, it was that information and your take on it that attracted us to you in the first place, after all, back when we believed that more information, more tactics, more strategies would get us where we were looking to go.
The information is necessary. But even more necessary is a supportive environment to show up and apply that information, test what we’ve learned, make mistakes, fail, be picked up by the group, and try again.
If you want to change the world with the work you do, you need our help.
And you have no idea how excited we are to help return the favour after everything you’ve given us.
